About SiC-based UV photodiodes: Si- or AlGaN-based photodiodes are available at prices of around USD 1. The cost of a SiC UV photodiode is significantly higher (from USD 17). SiC UV photodiodes are used when there must be no problems with radiation hardness (degradation, drift) during operation. This applies to industrial applications, capital goods, and medical technology. SiC UV photodiodes are also used when perfect "visible blindness" or long-term stability at high temperatures is required. Other applications (consumer, wearables, gadgets), etc. work well with low cost UV photodiodes
