ECONIDUR Plating Technology by TE Connectivity

TE Connectivity’s ECONIDUR Plating is a breakthrough connector contact solution that blends high performance with sustainability. This innovative plating replaces conventional precious metals with a nickel‑phosphorus (NiP) layer built using a sophisticated stack configuration. The result provides the same dependable performance engineers expect without the environmental cost.

ECONIDUR plated contacts are designed for high-stress environments, industrial control systems, drive technologies, and high-speed signaling setups where maintaining signal integrity at multi-Gbit/s rates is essential. These connectors are also resilient in vibration, micro-friction, or corrosive conditions. Bridging sustainability and industrial strength. TE Connectivity launched ECONIDUR in July 2025 and achieved its significant CO₂ reduction without sacrificing reliability. It showcases how intelligent materials engineering can cut emissions without compromise meeting both industry performance needs and corporate sustainability goals.

This technology is so new, that currently TE Connectivity will be releasing soon the ERNI SMC Connectors and ERNI MicroSpeed Connector series with this plating.  They will have new part numbers, so as not to be confused with existing part numbers within this series.  No exact date on when more connector series will join the ECONIDUR portfolio, but TE said in the webinar it will be coming soon. TE Connectivity will also be presenting the ECONIDUR plating at future Expo’s, so stop by their booth and see for yourself.

In conclusion, ECONIDUR Plating underscores TE’s commitment to innovation that’s both green and robust. By providing equivalent technical characteristics to precious-metal alternatives, while drastically reducing carbon footprint, this technology offers a compelling path toward greener, more efficient industrial connectors. I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more about this technology as it integrates into more applications. I plan to keep watching this plating evolve and will likely publish another blog in the future once products are released. Here’s to the innovators who keep pushing boundaries and to the opportunities that come from embracing new ideas. The future is brighter because of this relentless pursuit of better solutions.
